The wild boy of Aveyron

This is the story of Dr. Itard's famous experiences with a feral boy discovered in the forest, and how he and a housekeeper took him in and did their best to civilize him.
They clearly cared a great deal for him, and provided him with a true home. Influenced by Enlightenment ideas of human nature, they hoped to learn a great deal about human nature from a boy who apparently lived from age 4 to 11 alone in the forest.
His mastery of language in the end was limited, but he learned to perform household tasks, enjoy the company of others, and to empathize with their feelings at least at a basic level.
Currently, it is thought that Victor may have had autism or some other mental disability.
