Thank God for the FOIA
By Chris Gregory
Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, the author was able to shine a light of truth on the unethical and secretive actions of Franklin Roosevelt and his administration. There have been many criticisms of that calculating regime - the attempt to subvert the constitution by "packing" the court and thus eliminating checks and balances, converting a democratic-republic of free enterprise into a socialist state, greatly lengthening the depression by raising taxes and enlarging the federal government... and now the culmination of our fears and the proof - the 8-step program to force the Japanese Empire into attacking Pearl Harbor.

Prior to that attack, our Congress wasn't inclined to go to war; indeed, the American people were not so inclined. The Roosevelt administration needed the Japanese to attack and a clear provocation to force their hand. That proposed 8-point provocation was followed in total. It included the submarine pop-ups around the island nation, supplies to China, increased numbers of troops and ships in the Philippines and the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), and more.

Now, there is irrefutable evidence as Stinnett prepared his information like an indictment, exposing the Roosevelt administration. The 3000 plus victims at Pearl Harbor were merely pawns in the regime's high-stakes game. Unfortunately, for them and the 500 plus Marines and civilian construction workers on Wake and the15,000 plus American troops and civilians in the Philippines... all abandoned by the Roosevelt administration - abandoned to fight without reinforcements or supplies, Roosevelt used Pearl Harbor to pursue a "Europe First" policy. Those courageous troops in the Pacific became the victims of the secretive and insidious plan. Apparently, the Roosevelt administration didn't honor one of the most revered beliefs of our armed force... "Never abandon troops in the field!"
Stinnett never offers an opinion as to whether the war was the correct thing to do. He merely presents the facts and allows the reader to form his or her own opinion. Since I had an uncle die in the Philippines after Roosevelt's abandonment, the Bataan Death March, and 30 months of torture, starvation, disease, and slavery, I've formed my opinion. Congratulations to the author for exposing the calculating and callous actions of the New Deal regime. Obviously, those actions were not going to be exposed by the complicitous media of the 1930s and 1940s!

Day of Deceit should be read by all Americans interested in retaining our democratic-republic and first amendment rights. History does repeat itself if the lessons go unlearned! Day Of Deceit: The Truth About FDR and Pearl Harbor

Side note: it's unfortunate that HRC violates the Freedom of Information Act, hopefully she will comply or face charges!

Day of Deceit - not a "Day of Infamy"
By Dannyboy
Robert Stinnett has written a book that is one of those rare histories that gives the reader perspective on today's events. The news in June of 2013 about all the U. S. Government spy "leaks", data mining, and the new NSA super center in Utah shows us the dangers of using intelligence data that is kept so secret, kept so highly classified, that even after more than 70 years it is explosive in what it reveals.

Dec. 7th, 1941 has been investigated, written about and the subject of many motion pictures, novels and articles. But what Stinnett brings in this narrative and chronology of the secret intercepts, policies, and official propaganda regarding the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor will open your eyes to how one of our "greatest" presidents misused military intelligence gathering.

I had no idea that even in the 1930's and 1940's there was a vast and thorough effort to intercept, translate and crack coded radio messages in the years and months leading up to our involvement in World War II.

Even corporations like RCA, and commercial maritime shipping companies were turning over messages and content to Naval intelligence and the War Department under Pres. F.D. Roosevelt. The trouble is, such information and data were not used to defend our great naval base and personnel at Pearl Harbor; or to fully brief and alert the Pacific Commanders of our military stationed there. Instead the listening posts, translators and code breaker's combined and diligent work was used to help Pres. Roosevelt shape and execute a secret policy to bring about a Japanese attack. Deliberately.

Instead of intercepting their war fleets, alerting our entire Pacific Command, or warning Americans that the Japanese Empire was preparing and executing an attack, the president and a few key policy advisors and Navy Department officers were helping guide and shape a policy that would deliberately allow the Japanese strike that caused America to go to war.

In the process, Congress was lied to, historians were misled, and the public, official history of our war in the Pacific was very much a fabrication.

Stinnett documents with now released Freedom of Information records, long - classified and hidden transcripts of radio code intercepts, maps, copies of official communications, and even White House logs to show how this deceit was undertaken. You may disagree with his judgement of Roosevelt's culpability and motives, but Stinnett reveals how intelligence gathering was practiced even those long ago days on a scale that amazes. The key to his insight is his discovery of vast logs and records of various radio frequency use and intercepts. He found and interviewed actual naval and civilian intercept specialists and participants. He footnotes and quotes, organizes in a compelling narrative, and lays it all out there for you the reader to judge. He also warns that there are still - to this day - war records and logs that remain inaccessibly classified.

So, perspective can be gained on the secretiveness and comparative scale of present - day charges of spying on terrorists, foreign governments, reporters, and political leaders, and potentially all of us as yet another scandal unfolds in Washington.

I would add that the news of this the week of June 19th, 2013 is adding a further example of how "official" government approved narratives of historic events will, in a free nation ultimately be challenged by researchers and actual witnesses.

CIA and FBI investigations and briefings on the causes of the 1996 Flight 800 passenger jet explosion (which killed over 200 passengers and crew) indicate that such official government findings and reports included forcing experienced crash investigators to remain silent when the reports were finalized. If these now - retired members of the crash reconstruction and investigating team are providing the publicity needed to expose an official U.S. government coverup, then the fundamental premise and work of Robert Stinnett is validated.

In looking over the impressive number of reviews about this book, it is evident that freedom to investigate, publish and debate is a vital and welcome antidote to official government histories.

Ovid - in Roman times - perhaps had it nailed: "Treason doth never prosper; what's the reason? For if it prosper, none dare call it treason".

What Did They Know and When Did They Know It?
By Acute Observer
Day of Deceit

To the many uninformed, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was a devastating surprise. To those knowledgeable, it was not. Robert Stinnet claims that the US Government carefully orchestrated a series of moves to create this attack. Historians learned that some knowledge or warnings of this were known in advance. Dusko Popov's 1972 book tells how he and Ian Fleming visited J. Edgar Hoover in July 1941 to tell of Axis interest in the defenses of Pearl Harbor. The author served in the Navy under Lieutenant George Bush, and earned ten battle stars and a Presidential Unit Citation. After he retired as a photographer and journalist in 1986, he devoted his time to research and writing this book.

Appendix A has Lieutenant Commander Arthur McCollum's proposed eight actions of October 7, 1940 designed to provoke Japan into attacking. Allying with Britain, Holland, and China; sending heavy cruisers and submarines to the Orient; keeping the fleet in Hawaii; refuse selling oil to Japan; and a trade embargo with Japan. Stinnett does not question America's entry into the war, or even the manipulation to force the Japanese attack. He just wanted to reveal what actually happened; a scoop by a reporter. During 1941 a Japanese spy surveyed Pearl Harbor as a target. His last message on December 6 said it was ready for a surprise attack (p.85). All the time he was watched by Naval Intelligence! The FBI wiretapped the telephones of the Japanese consulate (p.86). But Admiral Kimmel was not informed (p.95). In August 1941 this spy established grid coordinates to prepare for the attack. Their transmissions were intercepted and decoded (p.99). Yet Admiral Kimmel and General Short were not informed (p.107). Did a Rear Admiral leave his ship Saturday to be safe at home Sunday (p.111)?

In early November 1941 Ambassador Joseph Grew warned that Japan decided on war with America (pp.143-4). After Admiral Kimmel ordered a search for Japanese forces north of Hawaii, the White House countermanded his order (p.145). This book is so rich in details that is can't be easily summarized here. Except to note that if Kimmel and Short were kept in the loop, the attack on Pearl Harbor would not have been a surprise. The imperialist conflicts between Japan and Britain, China, and Holland spread like a forest fire. But "the United States desires that Japan commit the first overt act" (p.282). The 'Epilogue' summarizes this book.

"The Wrath To Come" is the title of an E. Phillips Oppenheim novel written in the mid 1920s. Reflecting the politics of that time, this novel suggested a plan for a Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and attacks by Germany and Russia along the Atlantic seaboard.
