Torquil MacLeod is the author of the Inspector Anita Sundstr�m series and Sweet Smell of Murder, a historical crime fiction novel. Torquil worked as an advertising copywriter for thirty-six years. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he now lives in Cumbria, England, with his wife, Susan.

Marguerite Gavin is a seasoned theater veteran, a five-time nominee for the prestigious Audie Award, and the winner of numerous AudioFile Earphones and Publishers Weekly awards. Marguerite has been an actor, director, and audiobook narrator for her entire professional career, and has over four hundred titles to her credit.

Gripping murder mystery

Having enjoyed the first Inspector Anita Sundström book, I was delighted to find that the sequel didn't disappoint. The story is more complex with three seemingly unconnected cases running at the same time. All the while Anita Sundström has to fight to rebuild her reputation and cope with her unusual love life. I felt her character was continuing to grow in this book. The novel kept me riveted until the final page.

Gripping and atmospheric

Another page-turner from this new crime author with Swedish settings. Seemingly random acts begin to weave into a complex and intriguing plot with a host of interesting characters, while his spare prose keeps the action pacey. I felt I was plunged into an episode of Wallander! MacLeod brings Southern Sweden to life, and the novel is peppered with interesting snippets about its recent history and gives a real feel of the place, both physically and socially. At the finish, there is a taster of the third Anita novel which leaves you impatient for the next instalment!

I'm not sure this is really good enough for five stars, but what the heck. I enjoyed it, and plan to read the third one in the series too.
I rather generously rated the first one four stars, and this is much better, so OK, five stars, within its limits.

I've read the first two as ebooks from the Apple store, which I think is pretty cool: they're going straight to ebook, like a straight-to-DVD movie. Cheap too; I wouldn't spend $20 on a hardback for these.
To me these are sort of like junk food: fun reads, no great profundity to them. It's mildly interesting learning about Malmo, although Malmo is not as interesting as Venice, say,
or the Navajo reservation. These plots would work anywhere in Europe, the US, etc. Also, the author is not Swedish, doesn't live in Sweden, and doesn't know that much about it really. More than me, I guess, but that's not saying too much.
At one point, he has a character who has just driven home (about to be murdered), reach for his briefcase on the passenger seat with his left hand while opening the car door with his right--which means either that he's facing the back of the car, so he should see his attacker, or else the British author, despite his visits to Sweden, hasn't figured out that cars in Sweden are left hand drive. I think it was 1962 when they made the switch. Hardly any right-hand-drive cars left, and this was a prosperous businessman, probably driving a late-model Mercedes.

But it's fun to read, It also has a stupefyingly complex plot, with three individual murders plus an apparently unrelated serial killer, and it all works itself out in the end. It got a little TOO complex for me; I don't really care much about whodunit, and for a while I kind of stopped even trying to follow it. On the other hand, I learned to pick up the clues; like, I noticed that the artist was left-handed, so he knew he might have done the one murder where the killer was left handed, and I also guessed that his daughter might be left-handed too. I don't care that much about outguessing the author, but it's fun to recognize the clues when you come to them. Like when somebody says "come to think of it, I don't think I've ever met the husband" I knew that meant there is no husband, aha!

Otoh he did a great job fooling us, legitimately this time, with the serial killer, making us think it's a fanatic when in fact it's a hired gunman. In the first book, there was a totally ridiculous surprise ending where the good guy turns out to be the murderer, and in my opinion the author told us very clearly in the first few chapters that it wasn't him. He just lied; there's no backing down from it. This one, though, is a very similar surprise but properly done, fair and square.

One thing that could still be improved is the way, when people get caught or exposed, they conveniently give you a page of straight exposition.

Anyway, fun setting, very good plot, generally well-written, very entertaining. Some reviewers have complained about the heroine being weak, wimpy, constantly disobeying orders, etc. I'm fine with that. ALL cop heroes disobey orders or break the rules, don't they? And they're all divorced, or permanently depressed or angry because their wives were killed, or they're all drunks or something. If they were just well-adjusted heroes, what fun would that be?

I could do without her snus habit, though. Yuck! And her continuing romantic attachment to an imprisoned serial killer, man, what is up with that? Well, at least it's interesting, a source of plot complications. I look forward to the next episode, and I hope Anita manages to get laid pretty soon.

A Helpful guide for new e-mini traders and fresh information for experienced traders

Mel's book got me started in e-mini trading. It is a permanent fixture in my library that I refer to often. The book contains many resources for the e-mini trader, such as where and when to trade, what to trade, and which tools to use in trading. It refers the reader to many expert trading instructors and the contact information for them. It is not a book about specific individual trades, but rather it is a good foundation for new traders and a refresher course for those of us who have been trading for a few years. I have contacted all of the trading resources that Mel lists in his book, and I have found them to be very helpful and easy to work with. I am using some of their services at the present time.

I never saw in my life such cheating!

Another cookie cutter book written by someone with very little actual personal experience in the Bernese Mountain Dog breed - but who seeks to profit from the rise in this breed's popularity.

I am a very experienced Berner owner and have been actively involved in the Berner breed for many years. Some of the information in this book about Berners is just plain wrong.

If you want a good book on Berners, you should try buying a book written by someone with good experience in the breed (unlike this book).

If you're an aspiring pet owner, I suggest you buy Julia Crawford's book: "BMD: An Owner's Guide to a Happy, Healthy Pet". Julia has been in Berners for more than 30 years, bred many litters, finished many champions and is a past President of the BMDCA (our national club). This excellent book of hers is written especially for pet buyers.

If you want a puppy or training book, go find a generic one, as that will have as much validity toward Berners as this book has.

Updated and revised?

This new kindle edition is supposed to be updated and revised; but the introduction found in the old edition is missing! This edition begins directly by chapter1. its price is higher than the old one ( approximately the double).
For the content, I'm still reading it. I just put 3 stars so this review could be submitted.
