Easy to Resist
By TB2
I had so many problems with this book. Let me start by saying, I do not hold my romance novels to extremely high standards and I do not look for them to be overly realistic. And I hold my erotica and erotic romances to even lower standards. This book fell below all of those though. For one, the editing was awful. There were too many errors and incorrect words. Like when they changed "rolls". Unless they traded a piece of bread with each other, they did not change rolls. They changed ROLES. And no, I am not nitpicking, that is just one glaring example that stood out.

First, I could care less about any of the characters. This is probably my fault for continuing to read books where the main character is fresh out of high school. However, I was fresh out of high school once (and not all that long ago) and even I didn't act like this. For one, I was turned off by all the crap these high school girls in this book are talking about doing. I mean detailed sex scenes with the ex and talking about all the crazy sex she was having with him in HIGH SCHOOL, not to mention the references to all the drinking in high school. I am no prude, in fact far from it, but I seriously don't find it sexy reading about sophomores in high school getting it on and getting drunk (and yes, when she is reflecting on her life in high school, it gets into that; I realize she is not sixteen in the main storyline). Natalie annoyed the hell out of me. She was so stuck on the ex boyfriend. I understand she had her heart broken. I get it. We have ALL been there at some point. She just reminded me of some of my friends who just pine away over one guy for literally years after they break up. I really feel like in real life, Natalie would be one of those girls. And all of these books (this one especially) where these 18-year-olds are traumatized and heart broken (like heart broke to the point where it won't heal) over a high school boyfriend cheating on them. It's just ridiculous. Yes, it sucks, but I am pretty sure at least half of us have been there before with someone cheating on us, and a lot of us in high school, and just did not react this way. Maybe I have better big girl panties than the rest of the world, but when a guy cheats on me, I am not going to pine over him for months on end. I'm going to be upset, I am going to get pissed, and I am going to get the hell over it. I can see it coming into play as far as trust issues go later on in other relationships, but I just don't get this PINING AWAY OVER IT, consuming ALL OF YOUR THOUGHTS EVERY SINGLE DAY crap. On top of that, Natalie just acted immature all the time and overreacted to crap. And if that wasn't bad enough, Nolan was totally hot, don't get me wrong, but I did not connect to him.

Second, I felt like everything was very unrealistic, and remember, I am not looking for really realistic stuff here. I just mean stuff like Natalie referring to doing things "out of habit" with Nolan, less than 24 hours after having met him. Seriously. Within the first 24-48 hours of them knowing each other, the author refers to them doing things out of habit at least 3 or 4 times. It is not a habit if you have been doing it for 24 hours!!!! Find a different word!!!! That word does not fit here by definition! It was also confusing me and making me sit back and go through the storyline again to confirm to myself that they seriously had only met 24 hours ago and I was not just missing something. Also, I didn't get how she just kept running into this dude over and over again. By coincidence. I have never lived in Miami. But I have been there. And I just don't see them running into each other over and over and over by coincidence.

Third, the story did not flow. Sometimes I felt like stuff was really rushing too fast. Other times I felt like the story was just dragging. It did not flow and all the conflict just did not seem natural. It just did not quite fit in well with the story. I don't know, the whole thing just felt kind of awkward and as others have said, choppy, for me. Honestly, I just couldn't wait to finish this book. And in the end, the ending wasn't that great. I also thought all of the poetry, except the poem after the epilogue, kind of sucked. I wasn't touched by it or drawn in by it or anything. Another thing in regard to the story flowing, who wanted to have just sex did not make sense. It was like she wants to just sleep with him, but doesn't want to have a relationship, but he does, so he doesn't just sleep with her because he will be a one night stand. But then next thing you know, he is trying to just get into her panties it seems like. And it was back and forth like that. One minute one of them just wants sex, then the other just wants sex, then the other suspects that the other just wants sex, but is angry, even though two chapters ago they were just interested in sex.

I never really got why they were into each other. It was like they meet, are physically attracted, then suddenly in love and need each other to heal each other. It was just a mess that made no sense to me.

In the end, I just did not like it and I will not read the sequel. The only positive is they had some super hot sex, but there wasn't enough super hot sex to justify reading the rest of the book.

Nope.
By Kristen Klobus
This plot has the potential to be good...but I feel as though its not written properly.

Things aren't fully explained from the beginning so you feel like your constantly learning an important piece of the novel only when you need it. I like when books are clearly stated and don't have you constantly guessing.

The locations kept throwing me off because one minute they were at a beach..then under a tree? Silly mistakes like that along the book make it unbearable.

I skimmed the last few chapters just to see the ending and than to find out their would be another book made me literally roll my eyes.

Not worth the money/time.

Angsty, Hot, Enjoyable
By Kathy Reads
Hard to Resist is about new beginnings, a fresh start, a second chance at love; and Shanora Williams has delivered the ideal novel depicting just that. From the pain-filled poetry and loving lyrics, Hard to Resist is sure to touch your heart if you have ever been hurt in love.

Natalie is an old soul at only 19 years old. She and Bryson had been together since their 9th grade year in high school, and she was head over heels in love with him. But everything changed on the night of her high school graduation. Her heart was not just broken, it was shattered. Not only does she find herself dealing with Bryson's supreme betrayal, but she is also dealing with her parents' failing marriage. There is nothing left to do except to run far away from all of the pain and hurt to Miami to live with her childhood friend, Harper. Upon her arrival in Miami, while driving and talking on her cell phone, she almost runs over a pedestrian, Nolan Young. Expecting his wrath for almost being killed from her carelessness, Natalie is shocked when Nolan expresses concern for her well-being. She is further surprised when he simply grins and accepts blame, laughing off the near accident. Later that evening, Harper takes Natalie to one of Miami's hottest clubs to celebrate her move, and who should Natalie see? The devastatingly handsome, Nolan.

Nolan is everything a woman wants in a man. He's handsome, smooth, talented, confident, patient, and supportive; but he's not without his own demons to slay. Nolan moved across the country to Miami to escape his own hurt from his mother. He's had plenty of relationships in the past, but he always manages to screw them up, but when he meets Natalie, he wants her and puts forth every effort to win her over. Of course, Natalie wants nothing to do with him. That is until she realizes he might be the distraction she needs to help her forget about Bryson and his betrayal.
"I'm broken and I refuse to be healed anytime soon. I can heal myself if I just do what Harper is doing. If I just go out, party, get drunk, then I'll forget." ~ Natalie

Unfortunately, her plans are thwarted by Nolan. She never expects him to be the nice guy. She never expects him to try and win her heart. She never expects him to refuse her offer of a one-night stand. He is a man, after all. He wants her, but he wants all of her. He wants the good with the bad; he wants to know all of Natalie. He simply wants her to share herself with him. He knows she will regret any one-night stand.
"I don't want to be on the list of your regrets. I want to be the good guy." ~ Nolan

Both Natalie and Nolan are dreamer chasers. Both are artists. She is a poet who writes of pain. He's a singer-song writer who writes about soul stealing and heartbreaking. He is just the type of man who can trample her already broken heart, and she is just the type of woman he needs to make him a changed and better man. Together, they are perfect as they support each other on their journey to learn what love really is, while they bury the past together.

Hard to Resist is a book that will touch almost every emotion. Shanora Williams has managed to make me feel Natalie's pain and hurt. I was angry and shocked a few times during my reading, as the author managed to take me even deeper into Natalie's character. Just when I believed everything was going to be alright in Nolan and Natalie's world, the level of angst increased. Not only does Natalie's past follow and confront her, but Nolan delivers a blow that is never expected. The development of both the story and characters is impressive, as I was able to watch both Nolan's and Natalie's characters grow and change over time. I had a front row seat to witness Natalie and Nolan heal and discover how love should be. The flashbacks provided during the story are very well done and serve to help the reader identify with Natalie's past even more, while gradually unveiling Natalie's awareness of the true nature of her relationship with Bryson. Although this story has a somewhat happy every after, there is still room for an angst-filled sequel to Hard to Resist, which I desperately hope the author will consider in the near future. I would love to see what is next for Nolan and Natalie.

You won't be smiling without a heart

You won't feel as free as a dove"
