Keep them coming.
By Angela Collins
Every once in a while, you stumble upon an author and get hooked. For me, Heather Killough-Walden is just such an author. I first became a fan of her Big Bad Wolf series and now I am absolutely hooked on the spin-off series, The Kings. Not only does she create a page turning novel, but for paranormal lovers such as myself, she brings all aspects of the paranormal realm into it. Each one is am excellent read in and of itself, though best if read in order. One thing I really like about her series is how the villain in one book is the hero of another. But don't expect a knight in shining armor. These are definitely bad boys. They may have a heart of gold or a silver lining to their rough exterior, but those sides are mainly for their women. And the ladies are most certainly not shrinking violets. Nor are they easily swept off their feet. The men have to work not only to win the hearts of their queens but also to keep them safe from the danger that is threatening not just the supernaturals but the world as we know it. I can not wait for the next installment in this series to arrive.

Holy Smokes! *fans self*

I love Heather's books....haven't read them all yet but I really do enjoy her work :) The Warlock King is the first I've actually read in the King Series but even though it was not the first book I didn't get lost at all. Heather does a great job of pulling you into the story with relevant information so you aren't lost, even if your in the 4th book in a series or the 7th :) Only really talented authors can pull that off.

There are 13 Kings and 13 Queens (on a chessboard nonetheless) The Kings are of various races like Warlock, Vampire, Phantom, Goblin and so forth. The Queens are special themselves and even though its been what seems like forever for all the Kings, once the first Queen was found, now they are finding the others... (Chloe was the Warlocks Queen) and Jason is the Warlock King. Their story is pretty fascinating as Chloe knows exactly who Jason is...after a chance encounter she knows she's his Queen and she spends that time running. Akyri live off their mates power so to speak...it fills a void in them....but she doesn't want to be a servant to anyone and wants to make her own choices...so she continues to run, basically starving herself in the process. She can't hide from her King though and throughout the book he'll randomly pop in, just to show her that she can't hide.

There's some mysteries to solve as she tries to find ways to feed herself, her magical side without turning to Jason. She goes on some chases to try and solve the mystery. Of course what she doesn't know is that Jason is having her followed/protected everywhere she goes (which is a good thing, you'll see.)

Will Chloe run forever and risk combusting into stardust? Or will she run to Jason and embrace his dark side that frightens her?

The game of chess continues!!!
By BarbarinaS
This book was a gift to me by Heather in one of her wonderful giveaway opportunities but I would gladly have paid for it. Her books don't disappoint and like the game of chess this series is intriguing, challenging and definitely captivating. I am not leaving until the game is over and even then I will probably hope for a rematch.

The characters are compelling and become more so with the exposure of the soft side reserved for their queens. Jason has really been the bad boy but with the advent of Chloe something in him changes and rather than a weakness it is surprising empowering, it always is to end the lonliness. There is now an impetus to defeat the growing evil not just for the side of 'good' but because there is now too much to even contemplate losing, and not just for him. The plot is exciting but the intricate world built in this series is amazing, almost astounding. Each new book about the kings weaves old players in and out as well as introducing those that will soon take centre stage in the action, and despite the complexities we follow. This is what happens with a writer that knows her business, and more knows her audience.

Her heroes are to die for, their women something to aspire to, and their stories a way for us to escape the real world for just enough time to relax and renew, and of course wait for the next book. What esle is there to say?
