In America’s case, the current make-up of the United Nations General Assembly virtually guarantees any decision will be contrary to the national interests of America. Our grandfathers saw through Wilson’s idyllic view of the world, but sadly, our fathers did not.

Wilson’s concept of a “League of Nations” never gained a foothold in the American political arena until the end of World War II, when his dream became a reality with the formation of the United Nations in 1945. The basic charter of the United Nations strives to shape the world by governing international trade, security, economic development, and social progress. But you need only look to its failure to feed starving people in Africa, or trade oil for food in Iraq, as examples of its weakness in global governance.

Yet, these limitations do not stop the elite from transforming their so-called “global values” into international law. In a sense, the inherent limitations to global governance via a central body of diplomats should be a rallying cry for freedom loving individuals in America. But sadly, our own government appears anxious to facilitate the United Nations’ efforts to circumvent our Constitution, and to level the international playing field by reducing America to a second class world power.

Interestingly, the former leader of the Soviet Union, Nikita Khrushchev, once stated, “The purpose of the United Nations should be to protect the essential sovereignty of nations, large and small.” Sure, he was most likely complaining about American attempts to slow the spread of communism, but even the First Secretary of the Soviet Union understood that national sovereignty trumps the new world order of global governa

According to the resolution, the basic goal of this treaty is eliminate the "illicit trade" of conventional arms on the international market in order to reduce human suffering and secure peace around the world. The treaty will call upon arms exporting nations to regulate and report arms trades in the seven categories discussed in the section above, plus small arms.

Following President Barack Obama's re-election in November 2012, one of his first official phone calls was to United Nations Secretary Gernal Ban Ki-moon.  According to White House reports, the purpose of the call was to encourage Ki-moon to press forward with the Arms Trade Treaty. In subsequent comments on 16 January 2013, President Obama pledged to the American people to "put everything I've got" into gun control.

GOOD MOTHER, BAD DAUGHTER? by Author Martha Penn

This is a well-written and insightful book on a very difficult topic....an emotional abusive mother/daughter relationship. "Good Mother, Bad Daughter?" is chock full of personal experiences by the daughter of a mother that eats away at her self-esteem and self-image which leaves lasting emotional scars. Author Martha Penn does a fine job of giving examples of abusive situations as well as a thorough description of a narcissistic personality and the unbecoming traits it may entail. According to this author, daughters of emotionally abusive mothers "are so keen to please" and they can easily lose sight of meeting their own needs in life. She stresses that this may be a hard goal to achieve as the emotionally abusive mother can be insatiable when it comes to having her needs met and is seldom pleased with what the daughter is offering.

In this book, Author Martha Penn is open and honest about her abusive relationship with her mother as well as the love/hate nature of her feelings toward her. I agree with her sound advice at the end of the book..."Don't let your abusive mother's legacy live on; you have a chance to turn the bad into the good. You know what it is like to be on the receiving end of the cruelty and so give your children all the love and affection you missed out on". In my opinion, we have the opportunity to 'not let' history repeat itself and this is what we should strive for in our roles as mothers.

A deeply personal story

This book is penned as guide to help people who have had emotionally abusive mothers. The book was both insightful and moving. The author provides her own personal account of living with an emotionally abusive mother and how this affected her own self esteem and views on the world. Through the author's account of her struggle, the reader is able to learn form her and learn to heal themselves. The book offers lots of advice on regaining your self worth and protecting yourself from an abusive mother. Much of the information given can also be extrapolated to other abusive relationships and this is helpful because people with abuse parents will often subconsciously get into abusive personal relationships. I recommend this book to anyone who has had or is in an abusive relationship.

Very good book about the authors experience with a narcissistic mother. I can relate. Her suggestions are important and her experience is vital to someone like me who has thought I was the one that was crazy.

I wanted to plan a romantic weekend trip to Miami and found Win Her Heart in Miami...and I am so glad I did! I really liked this book because of the way the headings are laid out. I could go right to the information I needed and it really saved me a lot of time. Not only that, but Katherine has done amazing research and collected very unique ideas. It literally would have taken me days to pull together an itinerary without this book and it wouldn't have been half as good!

I brought this book home from the library for my son (9). After he read it, I picked it up and started reading a few of the chapters. It is well written, which I can't always say about books for children. It's also a great story about American exploration.

Absoluletly loved this book

So yesterday afternoon, I got my hands on the ARC of Shadows. Needless to say, that determined the rest of the day's activities. You may have seen me on twitter all excited about it. It took me about 3 hours total to read it. I took a dinner break but that's it. Make sure you pick this one up ASAP cause it's that good. Here's my review.

My Summary:

Dawson is a triplet. His older (by minutes) bother, Daemon, looks identical to him. Daemon is overprotective and a little antisocial at times - at least with the humans. His sister, Dee, is hyper and very social with anyone - human or luxon. Oh and all three of them are aliens. They're supposed to stay low key, living with the human but not being discovered. The DOD looks poorly on too much ...um involvement with humans. Still they go to school and talk to the humans but that's it. Until Bethany moves to town and Dawson can't seem to leave her alone. If the luxon's don't do him in for it the DOD's gonna find out. What future is there for a human and a luxon anyway? None at all.

My Thoughts:

5 stars - READ IT NOW if not sooner

Yes I love Jennifer's writing, her characters and her storyline. I have yet to read anything from her that I didn't love but WOW I loved this book.

Dawson is this strong, fierce, determine guy that reminds me so much of Daemon without the sucky attitude. I fell fast and hard. He's attracted to Bethany from the start but it takes time for them to fall hard, which I appreciated. What I really, really enjoyed was how Dawson was bold and confident with their relationship. I loved how they spend time together. I LOVED their first kiss, which.... oh just read it. The point is we didn't spend 95% of the book waiting for them to figure out that they liked each other and then 2 pages of a great relationship followed by something breaking them up only to have it fixed at the last second. NO, we enjoyed a fabulous building of a strong happy relationship. (Lots and lots of sighing, fanning and awing happening here). Of course, if you've read Obsidian, you know the ending is sad but what a ride until then.

It was so fabulous getting to know Daemon better. It opens up a whole new understanding of why he has such sucky social skills with the humans anyway. I think I understand Dee better too. Seeing the three together made it clear what their relationship is really like. Bethany got to see that too. We saw them through her eyes. So fun.

Speaking of seeing through different eyes, this novella was from three points of view (POV). Dawson, Bethany and Daemon. I have really taken to reading from the male POV lately. Love knowing what's going on inside their heads and Jennifer does a great job with that.

If you read Obsidian, then this is one you're gonna want to read ASAP. If you haven't read Obsidian, then start with this one. It's fabulous.

Wanted it to be better

So I'm going to be honest and admit that I should have done my homework on the order of this series. I didn't realize that Shadows was a prequel until after I was on the second book. I really wish that I would have started with Shadows because maybe I would have enjoyed it more. Instead I read it third and found myself disappointed.

I am in love with this series and the depth of feeling and emotion that Jennifer Armentrout creates with her words. Unfortunately, I can't include this book in that love. I didn't hate it, but it just felt too rushed and shallow to me. After reading Obsidian and Onyx, this book was a let down.

I was excited to learn the story of Dawson and Bethany. They are mentioned a lot in the first two books and I was eager to know what really went down. I figured that I would fly through this book even faster than the other two, but sadly it took me longer to finish. I just couldn't get into it. There was no depth to the relationship, no sexual tension that makes your heart race, no viable romance. They were simply words on a page.

The most I felt reading this book was toward the end. When Bethany is injured and when Dawson's family is told he is dead. Everything else felt too rushed. I would have liked the relationship to be developed more or something. Whatever that missing piece is, I don't know, but it is missing something. Overall, it is a decent read and adds more to the series. I only suggest reading it FIRST.

Bethany is the new girl in school who quickly catches the attention from one of the most attractive guys she's ever seen. Little does Bethany know that she's stepped into a world unlike any she could have imagined. Dawson is drawn right away to Bethany and even shocked to learn that she can tell the difference between him and his twin which most people can't. The pair is instantly attracted to each other which is a surprise for both of them.

For Dawson Bethany is trouble she can ruin everything that they've worked so hard for. Dawson isn't human neither is his brother or sister. They are all aliens from a galaxy far away that has been given permission by the DOD to be here. The DOD doesn't want the Luxen dating humans but it's not been enforced so as Dawson and Bethany's relationship progresses things start happening that could put everyone at risk. Soon Bethany knows their deep dark secret after Dawson is forced to save her life but they are in two deep. When the Arum the enemy of the Luxen show up in town Dawson will be forced to choose between love and his family.

Without thinking I read Obsidian first. I wish I had read the prequel it would have given a better insight into why Daemon is so anti human. A fast paced adventure will with romance and aliens. Shadows is a short novella so it was easy to finish in less than an hour. Like Obsidian I found the concept unique I love the idea of the Luxen it's a unique idea for an alien race. The characters are engaging you can't help cheering them on as they overcome every hurdle. The relationship between Bethany and Dawson is sweet the way they risk everything for love. Well I don't want to reveal too much but I can tell you it's worth reading. I have a feeling this won't be the last of Dawson or Bethany but I could be wrong. Reading Shadows just adds to my desire to read the next book in the Lux series Onyx.

Eli grabbed her bottom lip between his and ran his tongue along it, sending shivers down her spine. She felt flushed, drunk in a way that had nothing to do with alcohol. She managed to pull away from him. “Bedroom?” she panted.
Eli made a growling sound and suddenly dropped his body, then pushed his shoulder into her belly, lifting her up. She squealed, her feet kicking, loving the playfulness of it, and she ran her nails down the bare skin of his back and then swatted him on the ass as he walked. He quickly reciprocated the smack on her, his large hand cracking down on her jean covered derrière, and she felt his chest humming with laughter. Once they were in his bedroom, he roguishly threw her on his California king sized bed. She bounced and rolled onto her back, staring up at him with stars in her eyes as he crawled over her.
“Is that any way to treat a lady?” she asked, crossing her arms, glaring up at his face playfully.
He was hovering over her, his breath warm on her face, smiling like a possum. “Oh, well, my deepest apologies, Miss. I do declare you are right. That is most definitely not the way to treat a lady. Now this,” he said, lowering his mouth to her ear, then whispered in his gruff voice “is how I treat a lady.” He nipped her earlobe lightly, then kissed his way down her neck, trailing a line down her cleavage. He pushed up the peach material of her halter top then flicked his tongue into her belly button, raising gooseflesh on her skin. His hands moved to her jeans, his fingers deftly unbuttoning them.
“Now just what do you think you’re doin’ there, Mister?” she asked, giggling.
“Well, Miss,” he said, looking up at her from his spot next to her hipbone, then said in a dangerously low voice, “I’m fixin’ to go down on you. Any problem with that?” With that he tugged her jeans off her hips and down her legs. He could see, by the light of the moon shining through his window, that her panties were soaked through. He rubbed the wet material with two fingers and she writhed on the bed. “No, sir, no problem at all,” she moaned.

About the Author

Sheila Alber-Morgan has been an associate professor of special education at The Ohio State University since 2005. She was also a faculty member at The University of Southern Mississippi for eight years. After teaching for several years in inclusive classrooms in both urban and rural South Carolina, Dr. Alber-Morgan began doctoral training at The Ohio State University and earned her Ph.D. in 1997. For the past 15 years, Dr. Alber-Morgan’s research has focused on examining the effects of various literacy interventions on the learning outcomes of elementary and secondary students with and without disabilities. Additionally, her research incorporates strategies for programming for generalization and maintenance of academic and social skills. Almost all of Dr. Alber-Morgan’s research has been designed and implemented in collaboration with classroom teachers, and she has over 50 research and practitioner publications including peer reviewed journal articles, textbook ancillaries, and book chapters.
