Our grandfathers saw through Wilson’s idyllic view of the world, but sadly, our fathers did not.
Wilson’s concept of a “League of Nations” never gained a foothold in the American political arena until the end of World War II, when his dream became a reality with the formation of the United Nations in 1945. According to the resolution, the basic goal of this treaty is eliminate the "illicit trade" of conventional arms on the international market in order to reduce human suffering and secure peace around the world. The treaty will call upon arms exporting nations to regulate and report arms trades in the seven categories discussed in the section above, plus small arms.
Following President Barack Obama's re-election in November 2012, one of his first official phone calls was to United Nations Secretary Gernal Ban Ki-moon. According to White House reports, the purpose of the call was to encourage Ki-moon to press forward with the Arms Trade Treaty. In subsequent comments on 16 January 2013, President Obama pledged to the American people to "put everything I've got" into gun control.
