I very much enjoyed this book. I was a student of Fred's in St Clair Mo and had just done my 1st solo cross country proir to him moving on to Texas. This book brought back memories of stories told during ground school. I very much enjoyed the book..

Although plainly not a frequent writer, the author, Jim Atkinson, tells a story filled with love and devotion for his father: a man who was clearly born to fly. As a long-time flight instructor myself, I found Mr. Atkinson's book, "On the Wings of Eagles," an absolute delight and, indeed, difficult to put down once I began reading it.
The book explores the journey his father, Fred Atkinson, experienced from his early "barnstorming" days in the 1930's, right to the end of his long and colorful flying career. It also chronicles the many experiences, struggles, achievements and discoveries his father encountered as he managed to balance his need to fly, with the many demands of being a husband, raising a family, and doing it all on the low income of a professional flight instructor. But throughout his life, Fred never gives up on his true passion for aviation or for achieving excellence in his flight instruction.
Fred's story is an inspiration to all who share his love of flying and for teaching it. For it is we, who understand why, in spite of all the frustrating moments, it is still a very worthwhile and rewarding endeavor! If you can overlook the frequent writing errors that pepper the story, you will truly enjoy reading this book.

This book was written by his two sons.
The father is dead. Yet his history is written as though he dictated it.
I reccomend this book to every aviation enthusiast.
