One scene

This isn't a story; it's a single scene that takes 15 minutes to read. John hallucinates about his childhood while fighting a monster that spits LSD style venom. It's the sort of thing most authors offer as a free read on their web site. Not worth the $1.99 price tag.

Calling this a novella was a bit of a stretch

SURREAL ESTATE was laughably brief, and I think calling it a novella was a bit of a stretch, a deleted scene would have been more accurate IMO. Charming's been drugged which made his dream-like POV an interesting read, and James did a good job of fleshing out his black widow like Big Bad. I'm not sure how much of this tale happened inside of Charming's head vs. the actual reality, so that was a bit confusing. This was by far the biggest rip-off out of the five PAX ARCANA shorts, and should be skipped unless you are a die hard John fan.

Why is this a Novella?

This is a super short snippet of a scene where John Charming is in a house with a giant spidery lady. While interesting it seemed to start in the middle and was so short I really thought I missed something. It took me all of 10-15 minutes to read.

Seemed more like it should be a deleted scene on the author website more than calling it a novella and charging $1.99 for it.

About the Author
USA TODAY Bestselling Author Melissa F. Miller was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Although life and love led her to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and, ultimately, South Central Pennsylvania, she secretly still considers Pittsburgh home.

Another hit

I usually don't like novellas; I find that too often they're not well developed in terms of plot and character. This one, however, was a winner. Since the characters had all be introduced in previous books in the series, this really just provided an opportunity to get to know Sasha and Leo more as a couple and get a little closure from an earlier novel. The story ended way too quickly, but that was because I was just so involved in it! Kudos to Melissa F. Miller for another great story!

Excellent view behind the curtain

This is a short story using the characters of this author's female lawyer series as the main characters. It is a view behind the curtain of Sasha and Leo's relationship that we don't normally see as the full length novels are more legal type thrillers and don't concentrate so much on the romance aspect. You should probably read the full length books before this novella so that you know who the characters are. If you are already a fan of the series you will love this short story. I can't tell you how much I loved seeing these two great character when they are "off duty". I absolutely recommend this story and all of the books in the series.

Beautiful Trails

Sometimes reading a travel book can be an exhilarating experience; it doesn't happen very often but when it does it can make your day. I have read many books of this genre in the past, since I've been a traveler for more than twenty-five years now, but none gave me such pleasure as Martin Li's "Inca Trails".

What I mostly liked about this book is the fact that it's not a travel guide, but rather a travelogue. The author set out on a journey across Bolivia and Peru to retrace the ancient paths of the Incas, and during it he came to meet a lot of interesting characters, adopt a mule called Coco, taste the local cuisine, spent the nights out in the open or in dreadful lodges, and find his way across the land on packed-up buses.

Li does not, at any point, try to impress the reader, and he doesn't seem to care if the people think that he's brave or a coward; all he cares about is the journey, the stories he learns, and the new memories that form in his head day in day out. The people he meets, we meet as well, as he describes every character that has an important role to play in the narration in detail; the landscapes that capture his gaze, also capture ours, through his words and pictures. His journey is far from easy, but the way he describes it makes it sound so.

If I were a TV producer I'd use this book to film a series of documentaries that talk about the lands the author visited and the people he encountered, and I'd have someone narrate the history lessons he delivers as well, since this is one of those special books that can offer learning, adventure and bits and pieces of fun at the same time. I'd highly recommend it to everyone who's not only interested in traveling, but also history and ancient civilizations.

Author misses the chance to go deep into Inca Culture

I picked up this book since in a few weeks i'll be doing the Inca Trail and I thought it may help me to get another point of view about Andean Culture.The author's account of his travels thru Bolivia and Peru is interesting and on several parts describes monuments and ruins that he encounters along the way as well as little bits of information regarding the people he comes across.However, soon his account becomes a little tiresome because he is victim of his own words and experiences.In other words, the author spends way too many words describing mountains,rivers and plants instead of focusing on Inca culture and its importance.The book is basically the author's own adventures in the Andes and he seems more interested in enjoying and telling it to us like a family who shows their Hawaiian vacation thru polaroids:Its nice but it doesn't have any substance for the people watching the polaroids.Had he integrated more information about the Incas,their way of life and the significance for us today it might have been a different book but I guess that wasn't the authors intention.

This book reflects the authors love of travel as well as his extensive knowledge of the history of the Peruvian Andes. He offers a glimpse into the society of the indigenous peoples of the region in order to help the reader understand that the Inca never truly disappeared, their traditions are carried on by the people of the Andes even today. His descriptive writing offers a thrilling perspective on the beauty of the reigoin.

In my opinion this is an excellent travel book. It is more than just a travel guide but a book of photographs, and a record of the people, places, and things that inspired the author on his journey through the Andes. His book should be an inspiration for all of us to explore the world around us.

Disappointing

I found this book extremely disappointing. After the first book which was excellent, the second which was quite good - this third book in the series was not up to Mr Archer's standard at all - in my opinion. Endless pages on how the electorate works in the UK.... at times I also felt that bits of the text and definitely story-line had come from previous novels.... as an avid fan I did notice! This is not a spoiler - but I felt that the ending invited another book of the Clifton Chronicles some time in the future. I will not be buying it. Hopefully Mr Archer will return to writing stand-alone novels again and not drag out a story over three books which could have easily been written as one.....

Another good Jeffrey Archer best-seller

Jeffrey Archer scores again with another page-turning best-seller with the next book in the addictive Clifton Chronicles series. Archer is a consummate story teller and this series continues to display his skills in writing easy-reading and exciting family-based stories. If you have read the first books in the series this one is a must-read. If not you will still enjoy it but it would help if you are able to read the other books first.

Those of you who have read the first two books in the series will know that at the end of each one Archer leaves you with a cliff-hanger (I call them "Clifton" hangers) of an ending so you have to wait on tenterhooks for the next book in the series to be released find the answer. At the end of "Sins of the Father" a tied vote in the House of Lords on whether Harry Clifton or his best friend Giles Barrington inherits the Barrington title and property has been left to the Lord Chancellor to decide. All I can safely tell you is that the Lord Chancellor found this the most difficult decision in his career and he "would never admit, even to his closest confidant, that he changed his mind at the last moment."

Harry settles down to pursue a career as a best-selling detective novelist, while Emma goes in search of her illegitimate half-sister who was put into foster care when both her father and mother died after a fight. Giles Barrington pursues his career as Labour MP for Bristol with the slimmest of majorities.

As usual Archer adds a few baddies to spice up things. Among them are Alex Fisher, who bullied Giles and Harry at school and nearly got Giles killed at Tobruk, and Lady Virginia Fenwick - a beautiful, aristocratic, gold-digging control-freak.

The story moves to the next generation when Sebastian, the son of Harry and Emma, grows up and when he leaves school gets involved in the next "Clifton-hanger" ending where we have to wait for the next book to find out what really happened.

I don't know if even Archer knows how many Chronicles are to come - he has only taken us to the mid 1950's so far and the next generation of Clifton's are only just starting to flap their wings.

This book was released in Australia and the UK on 19 February 2013 but surprisingly will not be released in the US until 30 April.

Who wrote the last 30 pages?

I am a huge Sir.Archer fan, but this book wasn't up to his standards. The first two parts of the Clifton Chronicles were amazing. The third was really good, for the most part.

===SPOILER===

Are we supposed to believe Harry and Emma would let Seb visit Eaton Square and Martinez home on his own after everything happened? Not even warn him? I thought we were dealing with smart people until that point.

The whole Argentinian saga seems frivolous, just so that another arch villain can be created that would involve Seb.

I was very disappointed. Not the usual Sir.Archer fare, I should admit.

If you have read the first two books, you should read it anyway, for continuity. I hope things get better with #4.

Passion, Intrigue, Exotic Locations

A Tangled Web gives us an extended view into the lives of Stephanie, Sabrina and Garth. The authors continue with the wonderful character development of twins, Stephanie and Sabrina, who switched places in the first novel, Deceptions. This time, we visit the lovely south of France to learn about Stephanie's struggles with amnesia (yes, another soap opera plot, but well-written). The theme again is how strong the bond between twins can be. The romance between Sabrina and Garth, now husband and wife, is Judith Michael's ode to marriage. The children, Penny and Cliff, complete the domestic scene. There is intrigue on the international scale as Stephanie and Max hide from black market hit men and at the more local level in the scientific community as Garth and Sabrina fight to protect Garth's position as a researcher. Worth the read for descriptions of Provence and character sketches of a fictional European elite, A Tangled Web is a good sequel to Deceptions for those who wanted to share more time with Sabrina and Garth.

By the time you've finished DECEPTIONS and start TANGLED WEB, you're just wanting to find out how things are going to end! The authors do an excellent job of developing the characters (especially Sabrina).
I wasn't ready for DECEPTIONS to end and I couldn't wait to read TANGLED WEB. The end leaves you feeling a little confused, in my opinion. There's really not an "end" to the story. When you read the last word of this book, you're still wanting to know more. How did their lives work out after they made their decision? Do they go on to have more children?
I would like to see another sequel come out that tells more about Stephanie's feelings about the decision that they ended up making in the end. The first book focused more on Sabrina than Stephanie, so I think it's only fair that we get an equal view into Stephanie's mind. As a mother myself, I can't even begin to imagine dealing with the decision that they had to make. I'd love to know how Stephanie dealt with it.

Deserves an Oscar......

I really,really enjoyed reading this book. Wow I could not put it down or sleep all night, or just have a spare moment..The book is full of suspense, surprises, love, tears, and cries.Everything that a good book must have. The characters come so alive as you read more and more and you either hate one of them or love them both. It's a must read.

Good as a first dog book for me

I chose 5 star as the information contained in the boom was just what I needed as a new owner of a BMD. For the most part the dog info would be the same for any breed. This was given away by several typos where they forgot to change the breed to BMD, halfway through it referred to Maltese? So if you have two different breeds, it would be a waste of money buying two separate books really.
