About the Author
Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake.

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Not what I'm used to from Kristen Ashley
By JackandNoraMOM
Here it is... a book I have LONG had on my list of books to watch for. I always pre-order all Kristen's books because I can hardly stand the anticipation but this one just didn't do it for me... I didn't feel the depth of the characters like usual. The book was shorter and I felt like it just ended. I mean there was an end but things didn't feel tied up in a nice pretty bow like normal with this author's books. Colorado Mountain series has been MY FAVORITE out of all the series but wow Cookie and Ham...I just didn't buy it. I didn't feel the drama or angst like is standard. I didn't cry. I didn't break out in goose bumps. I didn't feel anything for either of these characters. I wanted MORE. More background from the both of them. The part thrown in about "Rachel" was just that...a part thrown in. It didn't add anything and it left me feeling like WHAT? and HUH? The scenes with Cookie's parents...ridiculous. She never lets her mom get out any FULL sentences so it's like Why did this conversation happen. And Nina and Max are 2 of my favorites but Nina is starting to look more like a shrew in all the books following hers.... And the names... This is standard in all of her books but I want to state that it GETS ON MY NERVES! One name for each character should do it! Graham, Ham, Reese...geez, really just UGH!... The only time I felt like crying was once the book was over and I had not experienced ANYTHING. A big no for me... After the series with Knight and the following books from the Knight series I am starting to wonder...is this the same author??? Are we pressuring these authors to put books out faster and in the process losing something valuable within the pages? I'm just sad.. The Gamble, Sweet Dreams, Lady Luck, Breathe, The Mystery Man series, The Chaos series and Joe from the Burg series just are some of my favs of ALL TIME but several of the others have missed the mark for me... Too much of one author? Maybe I don't know but I want my bad boys back with their tough women. Here's to hoping that Benny's story is worth waiting for. :-(

Sigh...where oh were IS the KA books I once loved?
By KC -- Reading Is My Superpower
It pains me deeply to only give any thing KA 3 stars. Pains. Me. Alas, what in the world KA?? Please please please...get away from your publisher. Run. Don't walk. Save us all. I have always loved KA books. She was my #1 favorite author. I would one click away without even reading the synopsis. I would pre order without batting an eye. I wouldn't even look to see how much her books were. Now...I'm sad. So sad my heart hurts. Ever since her books were taken over by her publisher I have felt a let down deep in my soul. Her books that were always always always descriptive enough that you could imagine yourself in the scene. Her books that the sex scenes were so carefully woven you could almost feel them. Her books that the back story was so carefully laid out you knew exactly why the characters were the way they were. Her books that were meaty and long and you knew you were getting your money's worth plus some...then came the publisher. And now the sex scenes are flat, the stories are short, the insight into the characters heads is gone. All of a sudden her books are 2 days later, 3 weeks later, 2 months later...it saddens me. It breaks me heart. I want to scream and throw my kindle across the room. Then I want to ask "why KA why?" Why did you do this? I understand that with a publisher you can gain a wider audience. But with today's social media an author can be shared far and wide. Is it worth the publisher getting your name out there if you are loosing the fans that you already had? The fans that have been supporting you for YEARS devouring your stories and telling any one who would listen to go get these books?? And even the ones I've already read (Motorcycle Man being my all time fav book) they aren't the same since the publisher got ahold of them. I'm torn. I'm so torn I'm not sure what I will do. I'm sad. I don't want to let go. But Iam afraid I'm going to have to... but I can only handle so much let down. Sigh..please KA please Iam begging you- on my knees begging and pleading - GET RID OF THE PUBLISHER!!!! Or at least tell them to jump in a lake when they want to rip all the parts out of your books that make your book YOUR books!

Reece did not grab me the way most of KAs alphas do. I just didn't feel him the way I have always felt her men in the past. And I'm left feeling like Zara was his consolation prize because he couldn't have Feb. Sad, so very sad. Who wants to be 2nd best? And why would Zara settle for that? And that's what I feel like she did settle. Reece was almost murdered, so he re evaluated his life. Realizes he needs to settle down and since he can't have Feb he says "what the heck, Zara will do". That's how this book made me feel. *sigh*

I literally had to make myself finish this book. I didn't get so lost that the world dropped away and the kids were begging me to feed them because I was so engrossed I forgot they needed food. And a KA book usually does that for me. I'm just so disappointed. And honestly, if it hadn't been a KA book, I would probably give this book 2 stars instead of

Just Eh...KA usually does better
By Robin Snyder
This is not Kristen Ashley at her finest. In fact this had a lot of things in it that really bugged me. But still a bad KA book is usually better for me than an okay contemporary romance by most anyone else.

~~~ What she did right: ~~~
I was a little worried that I wasn’t going to be happy about the love interests in this. Reece is from Feb’s past in The Burg series and she got her HEA with Colt. He was likeable enough in that even though he doesn’t get much page time but I was worried that I was going to feel like he was settling for the heroine in this. I DIDN’T . I felt like Reece and Zara were always meant to be together and Reece was just stupid when he walked away from her the first time.
KA always gives us that great story where you are rooting for the couple to figure out their stuff and finally get together. She toys with our emotions so you aren’t sure whether to like the alpha male or want to kick him in the nads….I swung hard in both directions in this.
*** “Seriously, I don’t care if feminists hunt me down and burn me at the stake, that man crooked his finger at me, I’d follow him into a bank and rob it at his side.”***
There is that hot smack down moment with someone’s ex where the hero says something extremely inappropriate and it is really over the top but I totally love it.
*** “Is there a problem here?” A mild-mannered-looking suited man I suspected was the manager entered the situation.
“No, I’m simply having a word with my niece,” my aunt replied.
“Yes, this woman interrupted my wife’s dinner in an extremely unpleasant way,” Greg contradicted.
“She’s not your wife,” Ham grunted.
Uh-oh.
Shocking the crap out of me, Greg, with narrowed eyes and anger contorting his face, instantly fired back at Ham, “She’ll always be my wife.”
I went still. The table went still. I fancied the restaurant went still as I was pretty certain I watched ice form in a thick layer, crackling and groaning all around Ham. “Well shoot.”
His words were sarcastic but that didn’t mean they weren’t dripping icicles. “See I’m in a position to apologize since I effed your wife against the wall before we left to come here.”****
That and kidnappings are sorta my guilty pleasures in a KA story.
The side characters from prior books. Max and Nina are highlighted in this one and it totally made me miss them. Nina and Max are hilarious together as the established side couple and added some much needed comic relief to a few scenes.
*** “Nina’s eyes narrowed. “I’ll remind you, Holden Maxwell, father of my children, love of my life, that we just met Reece and perhaps he doesn’t wish to listen to us squabbling.”
Max looked at Ham. “Kiss that good-bye. We’ll be fightin’ on and off through dinner. Prepare. She gets riled, we’re all effed.”
~~~What She Did Wrong:~~~

The Nicknames were OMG horrible. Like so bad. Graham Reece was nicknamed Ham…..HAM!!!

And Zara’s nickname was Cookie. Okay so that is better than Ham but only slightly.

So anytime they were calling each other Ham and Cookie in my head were flashes of CookieMonster eating Ham. AND…during sex OMG I couldn’t get into it because every time she sighed “harder Ham”, “Ham I’m close” or anything else like that all I could do was snicker.

They can’t all be winners I guess but usually I love the nicknames that KA comes up with for her characters. Whiskey and Snooks are both in my top ten nicknames ever and I totally tried to talk my man into letting me call him Snooks. It was a no go but seriously I expected more I guess.

The side drama with Zara’s family also missed the mark for me. Usually this is a strong point for KA but while I was a little swept away by the circumstances of Zara’s family the whole we have to get custody of my Nephew thing totally missed the mark.

1 – It was said before they new if he was in a good or bad situation.
2 – They had just gotten together as a couple and BAM lets get custody of a kid who might be happy where he is. Zara still wasn’t even sure if Reece (I refuse to call him Ham) was in love with her.

It was just a little shotgun in my opinion and I wasn’t happy about it. While it all turned out okay in the end and totally went down like it needed to the premise really upset me.

~~~Overall:~~~~
Still KA knows how to tap dance on my emotions and give me a good ride so while this isn’t the strongest book in her arsenal I know they can’t all be winners and there was bound to be one that was a dud for me. Still a dud KA book gets 3 stars so how bad could it be.
